Mo Salah scores as Liverpool hold Arsenal to 2-2 draw

Arsenal missed the chance to secure all three points as Liverpool came from behind to force a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

The Gunners were hoping to recover from their 2-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend, but the result leaves them five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Bukayo Saka returned to Arsenal’s starting lineup after recovering from injury, while Jurrien Timber also made a comeback to replace the suspended William Saliba. For Liverpool, Alex Mac Allister started in midfield, and Darwin Nunez led the attack, with Diogo Jota out injured.

Both teams started cautiously, but it was Arsenal who struck first. Saka outpaced Andy Robertson to collect a long ball, stepped inside the defender, and fired a shot into the net to make it 1-0.

Liverpool quickly responded from a corner. Luis Diaz flicked the ball at the near post, and Virgil van Dijk powered a header past Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to make it 1-1.

Just before halftime, Arsenal regained the lead. Declan Rice’s precise free-kick found Mikel Merino, who headed the ball past Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, making it 2-1 to the Gunners.

Liverpool pushed hard in the second half, searching for another equaliser. They found it in the 80th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a perfect pass into the box. Nunez controlled the ball and set it up for Mohamed Salah, who slotted it home to level the score at 2-2.

Both sides fought until the final whistle, but the game ended in a draw, with Arsenal dropping two points in their race for the title. The Gunners now sit five points behind Manchester City as the Premier League season heats up.
