Manchester United beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in Europa League
Manchester United secured their third win in the UEFA Europa League with a 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen. The win was important as United had struggled in the tournament and were close to missing out on automatic qualification.
Rasmus Hojlund scored twice to give Manchester United the win, after an error from goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Plzen to take the lead.
United made five changes to the team that lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Plzen also made two changes to their lineup after their 2-1 win against MFK Karvina.
The first half ended with no goals as United played without confidence. However, things changed early in the second half when Onana made a mistake that led to Plzen’s first goal.
He tried to pass the ball to teammate Matthijs de Ligt, but Plzen’s Pavel Sulc intercepted it and passed to Matej Vydra, who scored into an empty net.
But United quickly responded. Amad Diallo dribbled past a defender and took a shot that deflected to Rasmus Hojlund, who tapped the ball into the empty net to equalize.
Hojlund then completed the comeback when Bruno Fernandes took a quick free-kick and passed the ball to Hojlund, who flicked it past his defender and volleyed it into the bottom corner of the net.
United had more chances to extend their lead but failed to score again. The match ended 2-1 in their favor, securing three important points in the Europa League.
