Will Victor Boniface Leave Leverkusen for Al Nassr? Xabi Alonso Gives Update

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that striker Victor Boniface is in talks to leave the club and join Al Nassr during the current transfer window.

According to Sky Germany, Boniface, 24, is set to move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he could play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. The transfer fee is expected to be over 50 million euros (£44 million).

Boniface joined Leverkusen from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise 18 months ago for 20 million euros (£17 million). Since then, he has scored 29 goals and made 11 assists in 49 appearances. However, he has not played since suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty in November.

He also missed training ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Sparta Prague. Alonso said: “There are talks with the club, and we need to wait. We’re preparing without Boni. We will see what happens, but right now our focus is on the squad we have, and they are ready and fit.”

Alonso also mentioned that Leverkusen is close to signing more players this winter and added: “I’m happy with the squad and the quality we have.”

In Boniface’s absence, striker Patrik Schick has been in great form, scoring 13 goals in his last 9 league games. Schick said that whether Boniface stays or leaves, it won’t change his approach: “I always focus on myself and keep going no matter what.”

Schick, who grew up at Sparta Prague, joked that he expected some banter from the fans at the upcoming match. “It will be fun – I’m sure they’ll give me some stick from the stands.”

As the transfer window continues, all eyes are on Boniface’s future at Leverkusen.
