Jose Peseiro fails to win on debut as Zamalek head coach
Jose Peseiro, the former Nigeria national team coach, failed to win in his first match as head coach of Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek.
Peseiro, who recently took charge of the club, faced Petrojet at Zamalek’s home ground, the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo. The match looked set to end in a dull draw, with neither team managing to score until the dying moments of the game.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Mostafa El Gamal scored for Petrojet, giving the visitors a late lead and seeming to hand Peseiro a defeat in his debut. However, Zamalek’s fortunes changed moments later. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Ahmed Mawgod of Petrojet scored an own goal, bringing the game level at 1-1.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, giving Peseiro and Zamalek a point from the game. The result leaves Zamalek three points behind league leaders Al Ahly as they look to improve their form under Peseiro’s guidance.
