Paul Onuachu backed to shine again after permanent transfer to Trabzonspor

Paul Onuachu has since completed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor after a successful loan spell from Southampton and is backed to shine again.

Former Nigerian international Dominic Iorfa is confident that the Super Eagles striker will return to top form following the move. Onuachu signed a three-year deal with Trabzonspor for €5.6 million, according to Reuters.

The tall forward struggled during his time in England, scoring just four goals in 40 matches for Southampton. But his time in Turkey was far more positive, with Onuachu scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances last season, making him a fan favourite at Trabzonspor.

Speaking to Footy Africa, Iorfa, who previously played for Galatasaray, said he believes Onuachu is in the right place to get his career back on track.

Paul Onuachu scored for a third-straight game as Trabzonspor held Sivasspor in a thrilling 3-3 draw on Monday evening. SportsRation reports.

“Paul is a good player and I believe he will do well in Turkey with Trabzonspor, where he has already proven himself,” Iorfa said. “It’s a shame it didn’t work out for him at Southampton, but that doesn’t mean he’s not capable. Football has its highs and lows, but the most important thing is to keep pushing forward.”

When asked if the 31-year-old can repeat or improve on his goal tally from last season, Iorfa was full of belief.

“Definitely, I believe he can do it. He’s done it before, so there’s no reason why he can’t do it again.

“In fact, I think he can even be better. He’s got experience from the Premier League now, and that will help. The fans in Turkey already love him, and that kind of support really matters. I’m sure he’ll start scoring regularly again.”

Trabzonspor will be relying on Onuachu’s goal-scoring skills as they get ready for the new Turkish Süper Lig season, which begins in August.
