Mozambique Beat Gabon to Claim Historic First AFCON Win

Mozambique claimed their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations win with an exciting 3-2 victory over Gabon in Agadir.
The win ended a long wait for the Mambas, who had failed to record a victory in their previous 16 Afcon matches. It also boosted their chances of reaching the knockout stage for the first time.
Mozambique took control in the first half through a Faisal Bangal header from a corner. Geny Catamo then doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Gabon captain Bruno Ecuele Manga fouled Domingues in the box.
Gabon pulled one back in added time before the break when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from close range after a rebound.
Mozambique restored their two-goal advantage early in the second half. Right-back Diogo Calila headed in from a well-delivered cross to make it 3-1.
Gabon refused to give up and reduced the deficit again when Alex Moucketou-Moussounda scored from a corner, setting up a tense final period.
Both sides pushed for more goals in the closing stages, but Mozambique held firm to secure a famous win.
The result leaves Mozambique level on points with Ivory Coast and Cameroon in Group F. Gabon must now beat Ivory Coast in their final group match to have any chance of progressing, while Mozambique face Cameroon.
