Why Mirra Andreeva says “I would like to Thank Myself”

“I would like to thank myself” has become a familiar line in Mirra Andreeva’s victory speeches, and after her win in Adelaide, she found a new way to deliver it.

Following her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Victoria Mboko in the Adelaide International final, Andreeva appeared wearing a sweatshirt reading “I want to thank myself,” a phrase she has often delivered more formally in her victory speeches as “I would like to thank myself.”

I guess my team comes next,” Andreeva said after thanking tournament staff and her opponent. “But I do feel like it was all me.”

The catchphrase dates back to Andreeva’s first WTA title, which she won in Iași, Romania. During the trophy ceremony, she jokingly thanked herself. Since then, the line has resurfaced whenever she’s had a microphone after a win.

“It started when I won my first tournament,” Andreeva explained in her post match press conference in Adelaide. “Every time I win, and I get to speak on court, I say thanks to myself.”

She’s also been clear about where it came from.

“It’s not really my phrase,” she added. “I stole it from Snoop Dogg. I heard him say, ‘I want to thank me,’ and I liked it.”

Andreeva has repeated the line at several milestones since, including title runs in Dubai and Indian Wells, where it became a recognizable part of her on court personality.

The Adelaide title is Andreeva’s first of the 2026 season, and she claimed it without dropping a set all week. It also comes just days before the start of the Australian Open, where she will arrive with momentum and as an eighth seed.

She is scheduled to play Donna Vekic in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday evening, January 19, at Margaret Court Arena.
