Hills praises Charlton Response after Sunderland Win
Karen Hills praised her players after Charlton Athletic Women bounced back from midweek disappointment to defeat Sunderland Women 1–0.
The match was decided by a 36th-minute goal from Amalie Thestrup, which secured all three points for Charlton in a tightly contested game.
Hills said the performance was the response she wanted to see after the team’s midweek defeat to Portsmouth Women, a result that ended their impressive 27-game unbeaten league run.
“I wanted to see a reaction from Wednesday to see the character that we have, and they didn’t disappoint today,” Hills said.
She praised the work rate of her players, highlighting their ability to handle pressure, especially in the second half when Sunderland pushed for an equaliser.
“The work rate today was outstanding from every single player. That’s what we pride ourselves on,” she added.
Charlton will now turn their focus to their next league match against Bristol City Women, a team Hills described as one of the strongest sides in the division.
“Bristol are a top side with some fantastic players. We know it’s going to be another tough challenge,” she said.
