7-feet-1-inch Nigerian basketballer Michael Ojo dies in Serbia
A Nigerian-born basketball player Michael Ojo has reportedly died in Serbia on Friday.
The 7-feet-1-inch player was said to have collapsed during training in according to a statement released by his former team Red Star Belgrade.
“The sudden and shocking death has deeply shaken everyone in the club,” Red Star said in a statement.
Ojo a graduated from Florida State University with bachelor’s degree in international affairs moved to Europe where he started his career with FMP Belgrade in 2017 after going undrafted.
In 2018 he joined Red Star Belgrade in 2018 where he averaged 6.3 points, and 3.3 rebounds in the ABA league and 4.1 points and 3 rebounds in the EuroLeague.
He was released by Red Star at the end of the season and he was said to be hunting for a new club before his untimely death.
Michael Ojo was 27 years old at the time of his untimely demise.
