Victor Eletu finally teams up with Flying Eagles ahead of Dominican Republic clash
AC Milan midfielder joins team in Mendoza ahead of World Cup
Highly-rated AC Milan teenage star Victor Eletu has finally joined up with the Flying Eagles squad in their Mendoza base for the U-20 FIFA World Cup after being held up by his club.
Eletu, 18, is a regular player for the AC Milan Primavera side and the club was reluctant to let him go as he is one of their captains, and they are in a relegation battle in their league. The defensive midfielder featured as his side secured a 3-0 win against Hellas Verona U19 this week before jetting out to Argentina with his agent.
Eletu has missed both of the Flying Eagles friendlies against Club Almirante Brown and Colombia’s U-20 team, but coach Ladan Bosso and his staff have dispelled any fears of the player’s late arrival being a problem to the team.
The left-footed midfielder has been handed the number 10 shirt for the tournament to show how highly he is rated by the coaching crew. He will play a key role in midfield alongside Daniel Daga, who starred from midfield in the draw against Colombia.
Victor Eletu will look to blend in with the squad and develop an understanding ahead of their opener against Dominican Republic on Sunday. The youngsters will look to start the competition with a win against the side perceived as weakest in the group.
