2023 U-20 World Cup: Brazil, Colombia cruise into last-8
Brazil and Colombia cruised into the last-8 of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup with big wins over Tunisia and Slovakia respectively in the round of 16.
Both games were played simultaneously by 6:30pm on Wednesday May 31, 2023 in Argentina and saw the South Americans secure comfortable wins.
For Brazil, Marcos Learnado and Andrey Santos scored in a first half that also cut their number to 10-men following a straight red card for Robert Renan on the stroke of halftime.
With a 2-0 lead, the Selecao U-20 and Tunisia U-20 could not find another goal until a crazy stoppage time run that produced three goals.
Matheus Martins and Andrey Santos scored to put Brazil 4-0 up before Ghorbel M. scored a late consolation deep into stoppage time in the 13th minute of stoppage time for a 4-1 round of 16 result.
In the game between Colombia and Slovakia, the first half failed to produce any goals but in the second half, six goals went in for a 5-1 result in favour of Colombia.
Cortes, Aspilla and a brace by Angel Gutierrez gave the South Americans a 4-0 lead by the 63rd minute.
Jambor T. then pulled one back for the Slovakians before Cortes bagged his brace deep into stoppage time to seal a 5-1 result and seal a quater-final spot.
No Surprises.
