Former Super Eagles star appointed Interim manager of Belgium club KV Kortrijk

Former Super Eagles star Joseph Akpala has been appointed Interim manager of Belgium Jupilier League club KV Kortrijk.

36-year old Joseph Akpala replaces Bernd Storck who left the role since April.

The Nigerian is no stranger at KV Kortrijk having previously worked as assistant coach with the troubled Belgian side.

A former Nigeria Flying Eagles and Super Eagles striker, Akpala hung his boots from active football in 2021 to venture into management and will lead a transition at KV Kortrijk until the appointment of a permanent manager.

Akpala made his Super Eagles debut in September 2008 vs September and was part of the Nigerian squad to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The new KV Kortrijk manager has a good grasp of Belgian football having scored 90 goals in 286 league games in Belgium during spells at Charleroi, Club Brugge and KV Oostende.

KV Kortrijk players were led in training on Monday June 12, 2023 by the former Nigeria International alongside Jimmy and Kurt Berton.
