The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season has reached the mid-season mark, and the statistics released by the NPFL Competitions Department reveal some impressive stats.
Intrestingly, a total of 379 goals were scored in 185 games, averaging over two goals per match.
Here are some key highlights from the mid-season stats:
- Goal Scorers: Remo Stars’ Sikiru Alimi emerged as the most prolific scorer at the halfway mark with 11 goals.
- Wins and Draws: There were a total of 139 wins recorded, with 46 draws. Ten away victories added to the competitive nature of the league.
- Home vs. Away Goals: Home teams scored 271 goals, while visiting teams contributed 108 goals.
- Penalties: A total of 47 penalties were awarded, with 37 successfully converted and ten missed.
- Own Goals and Hat-tricks: Nine own goals were recorded, and there were three hat-tricks in the first half of the season.
- Discipline: Referees issued 724 cautions and expelled 23 players from matches for various rule breaches, emphasizing the importance of discipline.
- Top Teams: Lobi Stars of Makurdi led the league at the mid-season point with 36 points, scoring 22 goals and conceding 15. Remo Stars stood out as the most prolific goal-scoring team with 27 goals.
