Louis van Gaal to celebrate FA Cup victory with “expensive wine”
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will celebrate his side’s FA Cup win over Championship high-flyers Derby County with a bottle of “expensive wine”.
The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford had been called into question again prior to the game, with some reports suggesting that a defeat would have resulted in his sacking.
Addressing the media after the match, Van Gaal revealed that he would toast the triumph with wine provided by his boss, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
“How will I celebrate this victory? I come back and my wife is at home from the Netherlands,” he said. “The wine will be open. It is a nice bottle of expensive wine from Ed Woodward, which I always get after beating a team out of the top six.”
United are now through to the fifth round of the cup for the second successive season under Van Gaal’s tenure.
