Achraf Hakimi to Stand Trial Over Rape Allegation
Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco international Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial after being accused of rape, an allegation he strongly denies.
The claim involves a 24-year-old woman and is said to have occurred at Hakimi’s Paris home in 2023. A preliminary investigation was opened by the public prosecutor in Nanterre earlier that year.
Hakimi has rejected the accusation and vowed to prove his innocence in court. In a statement on social media, he said the trial will allow the truth to come out publicly and called the situation unfair both to innocent people and genuine victims. No date has been set for the proceedings.
Despite the ongoing legal matter, Hakimi continues to play for PSG. He was included in the club’s squad for their UEFA Champions League knockout round second leg against AS Monaco on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old full-back, who was born in Spain and represents Morocco internationally, has made 194 appearances for PSG. He played an important role in the club’s recent domestic and European successes.
Hakimi was also recently named in the FIFPRO Men’s World Team of the Year, recognising his outstanding performances over the past season. Internationally, he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, making history as the first African nation to reach that stage.
