Ademola Lookman a doubt for Atalanta ahead of decisive Club Brugge clash
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman remains a doubt for Atalanta ahead of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 playoff against Club Brugge.
Lookman missed Atalanta’s first-leg match against Club Brugge last week due to a knee injury. Although he had returned to light training a few days before the game, he wasn’t fully fit to play.
Atalanta lost the first leg 2-1, with Gustaf Nilsson scoring a last-minute penalty. After the match, coach Gasperini expressed hope that a comeback was possible in the second leg if Lookman and Sead Kolasinac were fit in time.
Lookman was expected to be on the bench for Atalanta’s game against Club Brugge on Saturday, but he was notably absent.
The Super Eagles forward is still a doubt for the upcoming game. According to reports, Lookman joined in some light training with the team on Sunday. He is progressing well but will need to undergo a late fitness test to determine if he’s ready to play.
Lookman has been a key player for Atalanta in the Champions League this season, and his presence is vital for the team’s hopes of a comeback. He is currently joint-top scorer for the club in the competition, with six goals and assists in six games.
His pace and skill on the ball have been a big asset for Atalanta, but his absence would impact their attack. The club will proceed cautiously with Lookman’s recovery to avoid any setbacks.
