Ahmed Musa Appointed General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club

In a landmark move, Nigerian football legend Ahmed Musa has been appointed General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club. The decision, approved by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was announced as part of a broader restructuring aimed at revitalizing the club ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Musa, Nigeria’s most-capped player, brings decades of professional football experience to the role. Known for his exceptional international career, which includes memorable performances at the FIFA World Cup and stints in top leagues across Europe and Asia, Musa’s transition into a senior management position marks a new chapter in his storied journey in football.

It remains unconfirmed whether Musa will continue playing or hang up his boots following the appointment. He had been playing for Kano Pillars in the NPFL, having returned to the club in recent years after spells in Saudi Arabia and Europe. The possibility of him combining both playing and administrative duties remains open, though observers suggest the new role may signal the winding down of his active playing career.

Governor Yusuf, in a statement issued by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed full confidence in Musa’s capacity to lead the club into a new era. “The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to blend administrative competence with football experience. We believe his presence will inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm,” the statement read.

Musa’s appointment follows extensive consultations with football stakeholders and comes alongside a partial reshuffle of the club’s 17-member board. While many members of the previous board retained their roles after guiding the team to a 9th-place finish last season, new additions were made to boost the club’s competitiveness and energy.

Kano Pillars, one of Nigeria’s oldest and most decorated clubs, is hoping Musa’s leadership will help restore its former glory and increase its visibility both locally and internationally.

The football community and fans across Nigeria have reacted with enthusiasm, seeing Musa’s appointment as a bold and strategic step toward elevating the standards of football administration in the country.
