Ahmed Musa declares Super Eagles can win 2023 AFCON

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa exudes confidence as he declares Nigeria have the players to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). SportsRation reports.

Musa is who optimistic about the team’s quality, is determined to bring the trophy back to Nigeria.

The Eagles departed Nigeria for Cote d’Ivoire in the morning of January 10, 2024 and arrived the former French colony eight hours later.

Nigeria, who last clinched the AFCON title in 2013, is eyeing a fourth championship in the upcoming tournament.

Head coach Jose Peseiro has selected a formidable squad of 25 players, featuring stars like Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Terem Moffi, Alex Iwobi, and reigning CAF Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen.

Despite having won only one of their last five games, Musa remains unwavering in his belief that the Super Eagles possess the necessary talent to outshine their continental rivals.

“We’ve been talking to each other that this is the time for us to go out there and shine. With the players in the 25-man squad, you can’t say we cannot win it when you hear the names,” Musa affirmed in an interview with NFF TV.

Acknowledging the unpredictability of football, Musa remains confident, emphasizing the team’s collective target to secure the AFCON title. “But in football, anything can happen, but we have the confidence because the target we have is to win the AFCON.” Musa added.

The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON campaign on January 14, facing Equatorial Guinea in their opening match.

Subsequently, they will encounter Cote d’Ivoire on January 18 and Guinea-Bissau four days later, rounding off the group stage games.

Nigeria aims to make a triumphant return to the AFCON winner’s circle, backed by Musa’s leadership and the undeniable talent within the squad.
