Alhassan Yusuf Scores Hat-Trick as New England Revolution Beat D.C. United

Nigeria international Alhassan Yusuf was the star of the night as New England Revolution returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over D.C. United at Audi Field on Wednesday.
Yusuf scored all three goals as the Revolution produced a strong performance to strengthen their position in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
The victory was important for New England after back-to-back defeats against Houston and Toronto.
Yusuf opened the scoring after 23 minutes before doubling the lead shortly before half-time.
He completed his first career hat-trick 21 minutes into the second half, scoring with a close-range header.
The performance takes Yusuf to five goals and two assists this season, his best scoring record in a single season.
He also became only the eighth player in New England Revolution history to score a hat-trick in a regular-season match and the first since Kei Kamara did so nine years ago.
New England head coach Marko Mitrović praised the team’s improvement and said they are getting better with time.
“For certain things, I’m very aware that we need time,” Mitrović said.
“What I feel is that with time, the understanding is higher and higher, and it’s clearer for them what they have to do. I think we are seeing results in our performance.”
Yusuf was also helped by new Designated Player Jack Harrison, who provided assists for all three goals.
Mitrović was pleased with Harrison’s quick impact since joining the club.
“The good thing is that very quickly, we started to get from Jack what we want to get,” he said.
“We believe that we can get those performances from Jack in the long term.”
Teenage winger Peyton Miller also impressed for the Revolution.
The 18-year-old played a key role in the opening goal, heading Harrison’s cross back across the penalty area for Yusuf to finish.
Miller has continued to impress this season, having played in several positions, including both wings and his usual left-back role.
Mitrović praised the young American for the way he has handled the challenges of playing at senior level.
“I’m very proud of him because those are the steps that every player has to go through,” the coach said.
“Peyton is really doing a great job, and I can say I’m really proud of him and nothing else.”
The result gives New England a much-needed boost as they continue their push for a strong finish to the MLS season.
