Amorim Blames Set-Piece Struggles as Manchester United Slip to 15th After Brentford Defeat
Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has admitted his side found it difficult to cope with set pieces during their dramatic 4-3 loss to Brentford on Sunday.
The defeat leaves the Red Devils in 15th place on the Premier League table, with the Europa League now their only realistic chance of success this season.
Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day, Amorim said: “I liked the performance of the young players. We controlled the game quite well, although we didn’t create many chances to score.
“We struggled with set pieces in the first 30 minutes, but we already knew we lacked the height to compete effectively in those situations.
“In the second half, we were close to equalising, but we conceded two more goals in a similar manner to the first — we suffered one and then lost our focus.
“We kept fighting, but in the end, we lost. Still, there are positives to take for the future.”
On his decision to rotate the squad, Amorim added: “As a club, we must recognise that we carry a big responsibility.
“We need to build a squad that is prepared to compete across different competitions.”
