Andre Onana to Stay at Manchester United During Injury Recover

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will stay at the club while he recovers from a hamstring injury that will keep him out for six to eight weeks.
The injury happened during training this week as the team returned to Carrington. This means Onana will miss the entire pre-season and may not be fit in time for United’s first Premier League game of the season against Arsenal on August 17.
Because of the injury, Onana will not travel with the team on their pre-season tour to Sweden and the United States. Instead, he will remain at Old Trafford to focus on getting better.
United Consider Goalkeeper Options
With Onana out, manager Ruben Amorim is thinking about signing another goalkeeper before the new season begins, according to The Telegraph.
United already have Altay Bayındır as their second-choice keeper, and Tom Heaton, who just signed a new one-year contract, as backup.
Young Czech goalkeeper Radek Vítek, who recently did well on loan in Austria, might also get a chance to join the team for pre-season matches.
Pre-Season Fixtures
Manchester United’s pre-season schedule includes:
- A game in Sweden against Leeds United
- Matches in the U.S. against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton
- A final friendly at home against Fiorentina on August 9
Onana’s Time at United
Since joining United from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47.2 million, Onana has had both good performances and some costly mistakes. His injury now leaves the club with a big decision to make—whether to trust the current goalkeepers or bring in a new one before the season begins.
United still hope Onana can recover in time for the start of the campaign, but the next few weeks will be key for his recovery and the club’s transfer plans.
