Arsenal Decide to Keep Mikel Arteta Despite Champions League Exit
Arsenal have made a decision about Mikel Arteta’s future after the club was knocked out of the Champions League.
According to the Daily Mail, the Arsenal board will not sack Arteta, even though the team’s season has been disappointing.
Arteta’s side lost 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes, making it 3-1 on aggregate.
The Gunners went to Paris hoping to come back from a 1-0 loss in the first leg, but it was not to be.
Fabian Ruiz scored in the 27th minute and Achraf Hakimi added a second goal in the 72nd minute. Bukayo Saka got a goal back for Arsenal in the 76th minute, but it wasn’t enough.
This result means Arsenal will finish the season without winning any trophies. They have also already lost the Premier League title to Liverpool.
Arteta became Arsenal manager in 2019 and has not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2020 after beating Chelsea 2-1.
Since then, Arsenal have only won the Community Shield twice and have failed to win any major honours.
The Daily Mail now says the club’s board have no plans to remove Arteta from his position.
Arteta has spent more than £600 million on players, including the £105 million signing of Declan Rice.
