Arsenal join exclusive list as controversies trail PL Matchday 18

Gabriel Martinelli inspired Arsenal were the biggest winners of Premier League matchday 18 after joining an exclusive list.

The Gunners trashed Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road and joined an exclusive list in the process.

Gabriel Martinelli who bagged a brace scored his first goal in the 16th minutes of the game – his goal was Arsenal’s 7,000th top-flight goal third to only Everton (7,139) and Liverpool (7,069).

Arsenal scored 7003 top-flight goals at the end of the game and continued their rapid rise.

With five other games billed for Saturday pushed due to Covid 19, Chelsea reportedly asked their fixture against Wolves to be moved because 8 of their first team players contracted Covid 19.

But their appeal was rejected and Chelsea played a goalless draw at Molineux Stadium.

Manchester City were too good for Newcastle as they continued with their impressive run and certain to end the year top of the log.

Goals from Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez, and Raheem Sterling handed City a 4-0 win.

Andrew Robertson went from hero to zero in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham. The Scot who assisted Jota’s goal scored Liverpool’s goal but then controversially sent off for a bad tackle.

The decision which didn’t go well with the followers of the game as they questioned Paul Tierney decision to hand Andrew Robertson a red card while Harry Kane who committed similar offence was only cautioned.

In fact, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confronted the referee during the game and wasn’t shy to say his mind after the game.

“I have no problems with referees – only you,” Klopp was overheard saying to Tierney after the game.

The Liverpool boss told Sky Sports: “There were obviously many other things that were influential in this game, but some of these questions are better to ask Mr Tierney.”

Asked if Kane’s punishment should have been stronger, Klopp said: “Definitely, stronger. We can give Robbo a red card, it’s not the smartest challenge of his life. But that’s definitely a red card, no doubt about it. So we have a VAR sitting there, and he has a look again at the Robbo situation. Fine, that’s what he’s there for. What did he do in the Kane situation?

Harry Kane and Son scored Tottenham goals.

Only four games were played as 6 were pushed.
