Arteta Explains Why He Signs Players from Chelsea

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why he often signs players from London rivals Chelsea, after Noni Madueke became the eighth player to join the Gunners from the Blues during his time in charge.

Madueke’s £52 million transfer has sparked mixed reactions among Arsenal fans, especially after Raheem Sterling’s disappointing loan spell from Chelsea last season.

Arteta, however, defended his transfer strategy. He told reporters:

“Probably because they have some great players, and a lot of players. We focus on the players we want to sign, regardless of which club they play for. With Noni, we are very excited. He needs a break now, but he will join us soon and show what he can bring to the team.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres in a €73.5 million (£63.5m) deal. His arrival is expected to strengthen Arsenal’s attack and end their long search for a top striker.

Arteta’s team has finished second in the Premier League for the last three seasons, and the manager is determined to finally win the title.
