AS Monaco eye Wilfred Ndidi transfer

Wilfred Ndidi, the Super Eagles midfielder, could be on the move as interest in him grows. AS Monaco, a club in France’s Ligue 1, is reportedly keen to sign the Leicester City player on a six-month loan deal, with the possibility of making it permanent.

According to L’Equipe, Monaco values Ndidi’s experience and sees him as an important addition to their midfield.

Monaco is looking to strengthen their squad with a seasoned player and has now made Ndidi their main target after their loan bid for West Ham’s Edson Alvarez was turned down. Ndidi, with his strong record in the Premier League, is an appealing option for the French club.

While Monaco hasn’t made a formal offer yet, Ndidi is said to be open to the move. This comes after speculation last summer that linked him with Olympique de Marseille, although he chose to extend his contract with Leicester City for three more years.

If the deal goes through, Ndidi will join a list of Nigerian players who have played for Monaco, including the famous Victor Ikpeba. Ikpeba, known as “The Prince of Monaco,” had a successful spell at the club, winning the African Footballer of the Year award in 1997.

Ndidi would be the eighth Nigerian to play for Monaco, following in the footsteps of Ikpeba, Lukman Haruna, Elderson Echiejile, Rabiu Afolabi, Sani Kaita, Henry Onyekuru, and George Ilenikhena.

Since joining Leicester in 2017, Ndidi has made 290 appearances and earned recognition as one of the club’s top players.
