Asisat Oshoala expected in Nigeria on Thursday as Super Falcons prepare for South Africa clash

Nigeria women’s national football team, the Super Falcons are currently preparing for a crucial showdown against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the quest for a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The first leg of the encounter is set to take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Friday, with the return leg scheduled for the Loftus Versfeld Arena in Pretoria five days later.

Star striker Asisat Oshoala, affectionately known as “Agba Baller,” is expected to join the camp on Thursday, due to prior commitments. Her arrival adds to the anticipation surrounding the clash, as the Super Falcons aim to secure victory and Olympic qualification.

The camp officially opens on Monday, with early arrivals including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku, and defender Jumoke Alani, who replaces the injured Ashleigh Plumptre.

Newcomer Shukurat Oladipo is set to make her debut for the Falcons, alongside veteran goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, Japan-based Chidinma Okeke, and Spain-based forward Gift Monday.

The rest of the squad is expected to arrive by Tuesday, ensuring full participation in the preparation sessions ahead of the crucial fixtures.

Motivated by the desire to avenge previous defeats to Banyana Banyana, including a 2-1 loss in the group stage of the 2023 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons are determined to emerge victorious.

With a potential lineup featuring experienced players like goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Christy Ucheibe, and forwards Esther Okoronkwo and Uchenna Kanu, Nigeria aims to secure a place in the Olympic football tournament.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s team, comprising 24 players, have already arrived in Abuja, setting the stage for an intense battle between the two sides vying for Olympic qualification.
