Asisat Oshoala misses out on CAF Women’s Player of the Year shortlist for the first time in 10 years
For the first time in a decade, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala will not compete for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The 10-player shortlist for the 2024 award was revealed by CAF on Wednesday night, but Oshoala’s name was missing.
Nigerians on the List
Despite Oshoala’s absence, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of the Super Falcons, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made the prestigious shortlist.
Other Nominees
The list includes top players from across Africa:
- Burundi: Sandrine Niyonkuru
- Malawi: Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga
- Morocco: Sanaa Mssoudy
- South Africa: Jermaine Seoposenwe and Thembi Kgatlana
- Zambia: Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji
Spotlight on CAF Women’s Champions League
Six of the nominees are also competing in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, making the Interclub Women’s Player of the Year category equally exciting.
