Atlético Madrid Confirm Signing of Super Eagles Star Ademola Lookman

Atlético Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman from Italian club Atalanta on a permanent deal.
The Spanish La Liga side announced on Monday that both clubs had reached an agreement, with Lookman signing a contract that will keep him at Atlético Madrid until June 30, 2030.
In a statement on their website, Atlético described the 28-year-old as a versatile and energetic player who can operate as a second striker or play on either wing. The club highlighted his pace, dribbling ability and flexibility in attack as key strengths.
Lookman successfully completed his medical examination in Madrid before visiting the club’s offices at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where he was welcomed by Atlético’s Chief Executive Officer, Miguel Ángel Gil, and formally signed his contract.
Born in London on October 20, 1997, Lookman came through the youth systems of Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, where he made his senior debut in 2015. He later played for Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester City before joining Atalanta in the summer of 2022.
During his time at Atalanta, Lookman developed into one of Europe’s most dangerous attackers. He played a major role in the club’s historic 2023/24 UEFA Europa League triumph, scoring a memorable hat-trick in the final as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3–0.
In total, Lookman made 137 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists.
At international level, Lookman represented England in his youth career and won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2017. He switched allegiance to Nigeria and made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in March 2022. Since then, he has earned 41 caps and scored 11 goals for Nigeria.
His move to Atlético Madrid marks a new chapter in his career as he prepares to test himself in Spanish football.
