Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is no longer Arsenal captain after club stripped him off the role.
The club via an official statement announced the development today.
“Following his ‘latest disciplinary breach last week’, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been stripped as Arsenal club captain & will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham.”
Coach Mikel Arteta talked about the decision and how the players have reacted to the news.
“Yes, we did it both with the club and face to face with the player. He had to accept the decision.
“I don’t have much more to say. I think it’s a really clear statement from the club. It’s a decision we’ve made following the last incident we had with the player and this is where we stand.
“They accepted the decision. They know because they have committed to it and we want to take our culture and how we want to represent the football club to a different level.”
He then talked about the possible names for the role.
“We have the leadership group. In the last game we had Laca. We had Granit who was captain as well. It’s not the time to make any rash decision.”
