Awoniyi nets goal number five in Union Berlin win
Nwakaeme scores, Balogun named MOTM in Old Firm Derby
Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi continued his blistering start to the season as he scored his fifth goal of the season in Union Berlin’s 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Bundesliga.
After being overlooked by the national team selectors for the Super Eagles squad to compete in the two FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the former Liverpool striker looked to prove a point. Niko Giesselman opened the scoring for the capital club before Awoniyi added a second four minutes to the end of the first half to put Die Eisernen two goals up. Jonas Hofmann scored in the second half to halve the deficit for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Alongside Awoniyi, Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma followed up his goal last week with a 90th minute assist for Munas Dabbur to level the scores at 2-2 in Hoffenheim’s 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Erling Haaland got the winner for Borussia Dortmund in added time of the clash.
Days after seeing a statue of himself unveiled by his club’s fans, Anthony Nwakaeme further endeared himself towards the fans as he scored the only goal in Tranzonspor’s 1-0 win over Giresunspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi laid off an assist in FC Lorient’s 2-2 draw against RC Lens. With the scores at 1-1, Moffi gave the ball to Thomas Monconduit who duly scored to give Lorient a 2-1 lead before Seko Fofana levelled matters for Lens.
One half of Super Eagles’ famed Oyinbo wall, Leon Balogun put up a man of the match performance for Rangers in their 1-0 win over Celtic. Filip Helander scored the only goal for the Scottish Champions in the Old Firm derby.
