Awoniyi’s coach reacts to first Premier League win of 2023/2024 season

Steve Copper who is Coach of Taiwo Awoniyi’s club Nottingham Forest is happy with the early goal by the Nigerian forward to inspire their first win of the 2023/2024 Premier League season.

Awoniyi scored in the 3rd minute, his sixth goal in six Premier League games for Nottingham Forest, a run that has stretched from the 2022/2023 season.

Forest won 2-1 vs Sheffield United FC in their second game of the season on Friday August 18.

Reacting to the win Awoniyi’s coach said “We started really well and scored early. We played well. We took our foot off the gas a bit. I didn’t like the complacency in the game. But we settled and played well after that. We gave them a chance and Matt made a brilliant save.

“We played the real football in the game, the real tactical ideas. In the end we’ve scored two really good goals.

“The boys showed good quality with the crossing and headers.

“You don’t get many chances in this league. But we could have created some more. But we scored two. It’s important to get the first win of the season.

“When we start a game like that we should show more ruthlessness to make it more comfortable than it was.

“When we played our football we were far superior.

“Maybe we don’t win that last year. Maybe it’s a draw. It reminds me of when we played Bournemouth, were two up and lost. Hopefully it’s progress.” he told the post-match press conference.
