NPFL week 6 Review: MFM secure an away win, unbeaten Plateau United maintain top spot

MFM FC recorded a huge away victory over their south-western rivals Sunshine Stars, Plateau United remain at the top of the log and FC Ifeanyiubah needed two penalties before they could beat the 2015-16 champions on matchday 6.

MFM FC were the biggest winners in the NPFL matchday 6 as they secured an important away win at the Akure township stadium yesterday.

The Olukoya boys who lost all their south-western away derbies last season came into this tie with a lot of confidence having drawn Shooting Stars away from home, defeated Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars with their only defeat being in the hands of FC Ifeanyiubah.

The Lagos-based club defended for the most part of the game and their resilience paid off when the league top scorer Stephen Odey fired a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box past Shooting Stars goalkeeper in the 48th minute to give the visitors a lead that was good enough to earn them the maximum points away from home.

In Kano at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Adamu Mohammed injury time goal was good enough to earn Kano Pillars an important 1-0 victory over newly promoted ABS FC.

The victory has taken Kano Pillars to 7th position on the league with 9 points from 6 games while ABS are 4th with 10 points from 6 games.

In Ibadan at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Sunday Faleye and Jide Apena goals either half rendered Lukman Mohammed’s effort in the first period inconsequential and hand the hosts a well-deserved win at a frenzied stadium.

In Uyo at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Newman’s 84th-minute strike ensured the Promise Keepers snap their 8 matches winless run.

In Nnewi at Ifeanyiubah stadium, FC Ifeanyiubah missed a penalty and converted the other before they could beat their rivals Rangers International FC.

It was their 7th oriental derby victory since 2015 having drawn 2 in 9 derbies played in Nnewi while Rangers International FC are now without a win in each of their last 4 Oriental derbies in the NPFL (1D 3L).

In Lafia at Nasarawa Township Stadium, league leaders Plateau United held Nasarawa United to a 0-0 draw to maintain their unbeaten run and their position at the top of the log.

In Markurdi at the Aper Aku Stadium Solomon Kwambe put up a man of the match performance as he scored and set up a goal in their 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists.
