Barcelona will not pay Liverpool £4.5m should Coutinho wins UCL with Bayern
Barcelona will not be paying the £4.5m clause in the deal that brought Philipe Coutinho to the Catalan giants from Liverpool in January of 2018.
When Barcelona signed the Brazilian three years ago in a deal worth £142m only £106m was paid up front with £36m to be in variables.
After the £106m basic, an additional £18m would be payable for the first 100 games Coutinho plays for Barcelona, £4.5m per 25 games.
A further £4.5m would be paid for Champions League qualification in the first two seasons with a £4.5m bonus for winning the competition with Barcelona in his first two seasons.
Since he only played a total of 76 games for Barcelona where he won back-to-back League titles and qualified for Champions League before he was shipped out to Bayern Munich.
This implies that Liverpool would have been paid the £13.2 for his 75 appearances, and an additional £4.5m for helping Barcelona qualified for Champions League in the 18/19 season.
But the Premier League champions have missed out on another £9m they would have earned if he had won the Champions League with Barcelona in the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons.
The clause clearly stated if he wins with Barcelona, which negate the news doing the round that if the 28-year-old wins with Bayern Munich, Liverpool would get an additional £4.5m.
As it stands, Liverpool have collected a total of £123.7m from Barcelona.
