Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface to miss clash against Hoffenheim

Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, has confirmed that Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will be sidelined for their upcoming match against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Boniface, who enjoyed a stellar start to the season with Bayer Leverkusen, tallying 16 goals and nine assists in 23 appearances for the team, suffered an adductor injury at the beginning of the year, requiring surgery. However, the 23-year-old recently returned to training earlier this week after recuperating from his injury.

Initially expected to make his comeback in the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Hoffenheim, a recent update from Bayer Leverkusen’s official sources, as relayed by Coach Alonso, indicates that Boniface will remain unavailable for selection. Instead, he is slated to return to action in the DFB Pokal semi-final clash against Fortuna Duesseldorf.

Coach Alonso will undoubtedly be eager for Boniface’s swift return to full fitness, especially with Bayer Leverkusen’s crucial matches looming ahead.

Despite the team’s commendable performance in his absence, Boniface’s presence on the field is anticipated to bolster the squad’s attacking options.

As Boniface prepares to rejoin the action, his return could potentially reshape the team dynamics, affecting the playing time of other forwards like Patrick Schick and Borja Iglesias.
