Bayern Munich complete £30m signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels

Just a matter of minutes after they confirmed that Renato Sanches had finalised a move to the club, Bayern Munich have revealed that a deal has also been struck for the services of Mats Hummels.

Like Sanches, centre-back Hummels has agreed a five-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

The 27-year-old actually made two senior appearances for Bayern at the start of his career, before he made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in 2009.

Hummels helped BVB to win back-to-back Bundesliga titles and the DFB Pokal during his seven years at the Westfalenstadion, but he will now head back to Munich.

“We are delighted that Mats Hummels has opted for Bayern,” chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club’s official website.

“Mats is one of the best central defender in the world. He will increase the quality of our team even more.”

The fee is undisclosed, although reports have claimed that the returning defender has set Bayern back in excess of £30m.

On May 21, Bayern are due to play Dortmund in the final of the German Cup and it remains to be seen if Hummels will feature against his future employers.
