‘Big names don’t play football on the pitch’ – Coach Cande after beating Nigeria

Revealed that Guinea-Bissau studied Super Eagles, and Victor Osimhen

Guinea-Bissau head coach, Baciro Cande has warned Nigeria ahead of Monday’s AFCON Qualifiers in Bissau after leading his side to a shocking 1-0 win in Abuja on Friday.

Mama Samba Balde’s 29th-minute goal was all that the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau needed to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria who lost four straight games.

Baciro Cande revealed their shock at his side’s victory and dedicated the win to the people of Guinea-Bissau. He also warned Nigeria that big names don’t win match on the pitch.

“This victory is for the Guinea-Bissau people, we respect all the Nigerian players, but big names don’t play football on the pitch,” said Cande during his post-match presser.

“They (Eagles) tried to do everything to beat us and created many scoring chances, but we deserved to win,” Cande said.

“We are very happy about today’s (Friday) victory and the boys did a very good job. The result is very important for us and the Guinea-Bissau people.

“We are surprised, but the team trained very hard and today they beat Nigeria, a big football country with good players. We feel good about this victory against Nigeria.”

Baciro Cande revealed that Guinea-Bissau studied Nigeria and Victor Osimhen, he also said he will not reveal too much because of Monday’s clash.

“I’m very happy, the result against Nigeria is an important one for Guinea Bissau.

“It’s a little surprise for the team, and my lads did very well in training and today’s game.

“Never easy against a big football country like Nigeria, who’s team has a lot of quality players. We feel good with this victory in Abuja.

“I can not tell you the strategy we used, as we have other game to play on Monday.

“Before today’s game, we have been studying the videos of the Super Eagles and players to understand their playing patterns.

“It wasn’t easy marking Osimhen and others but in the end, we were lucky with the chance and we won.”

On Monday, Guinea-Bissau will host Nigeria in the second leg of the clash.
