Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo stuns with Olympic Gold in Men’s 200m at Paris 2024
Letsile Tebogo of Botswana delivered a historic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clinching the gold medal in the men’s 200m with a record-breaking time of 19.46 seconds.
The 21-year-old Tebogo showcased his remarkable speed, outclassing the competition and setting a new African Record.
His dominance was evident as he finished comfortably ahead of his rivals, even easing off before the finish line to celebrate Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medal.
Tebogo’s victory makes him the first African to win the Olympic 200m title, solidifying his place as one of the greatest sprinters in the event’s history.
The USA’s Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles, who had taken silver and bronze at Tokyo 2021, repeated their podium finishes in Paris. Bednarek crossed the line in 19.62 seconds for silver, while Lyles took bronze with a time of 19.70 seconds.
For Tebogo, this victory is a personal triumph, fulfilling his dream of honoring his late mother by standing atop the Olympic podium.
