CAF CC: Rivers United FC spank El Nasr 5-0 in playoff first leg

Nigerian Professional Football League Champions Rivers United FC on Wednesday afternoon spanked El Nasr Benghazi 5-0 in the 1st-leg of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff tie.

Wounded and in search of redemption from a dissapointing 7-2 CAF Champions League aggregate loss to Wydad Casablanca in October, the pride of Rivers were ruthless from the off in Port Harcourt on Wednesday November 2nd.

Joseph Onoja opened the scoring for Rivers United FC in the 12th minute. Kazie Ezinnaya doubled the lead in the 15th minute to build the confidence for more.

Following misses by Nyima Nwagua, Ohawume and Joseph Onoja, Paul Acquah was effective enough to score the 3rd goal of the contest in the 44th minute.

At halftime, Rivers United FC had a well deserved 3-0 lead over their stunned Libyan opponents at the Adokieye Amasiamaka stadium, Port Harcourt.

In the second half, Super Eagles defender Ebube Duru scored the fourth before Malachi Ohawume capped the performance with a thunderbolt effort to seal a 5-0 win for Rivers United FC.

A performance that will excite the Coach Stanley Eguma led technical crew with the pre match talk majored on the dominance of North African clubs over Nigerian teams in CAF club competitions.

A 5-0 first-leg result represents a healthy lead for the NPFL Champions ahead of the return in Libya on November 9, 2022.

The aggregate winner of this encounter will progress to the group stage of the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup.
