Enyimba FC head coach Stanley Eguma has declared his team “battle ready” for Sunday’s must-win CAF Confederation Cup Group D clash against Egyptian side Al Masry. The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions face a daunting task as they seek to keep their quarter-final hopes alive. Currently sitting third in Group D with four points, Enyimba must secure victory to leapfrog Al Masry, who occupy second place with five points. Zamalek tops the group with eight points, while Mozambique’s Black Bulls are level with Enyimba on four points.

Speaking ahead of the match, Eguma, who recently took charge of the Aba giants, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.

“We are beginning to get our rhythm, and Enyimba Football Club is ready,” Eguma said.

Al Masry Determined to Secure Positive Result

Al Masry’s captain, Hassan Ali, revealed that his team is approaching the match with high spirits and determination to secure a favourable result.

“Our ambitions are high, and we seek to please our supporters,” Ali stated.

However, the Egyptian side faces a setback, as key winger Karim El-Eraky will miss the match due to suspension for accumulated yellow cards. Despite this, Al Masry’s director Mohamed Abdel-Karim is confident in his team’s mental and tactical preparation.

“Our players understand the significance of this match against Enyimba, given its pivotal role in our quest for the quarter-finals,” Abdel-Karim remarked.

Previous Encounters and Group Dynamics

In their first group-stage meeting in November, Al Masry claimed a 2-0 victory over Enyimba in Egypt. However, the Nigerians are determined to overturn that result and use their home advantage to reignite their campaign.

Meanwhile, group leaders Zamalek will face Black Bulls in the other Group D fixture, a match that could further shape the standings heading into the final round.
