Carlos Alcaraz Fights Back to Win French Open Again
Carlos Alcaraz made an amazing comeback to win the French Open for the second year in a row on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The 22-year-old Spaniard was down by two sets but fought back to beat world number one Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set final.
Alcaraz saved three match points and won 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes on court — the longest final in French Open history.
With this victory, Alcaraz now has five Grand Slam titles and remains unbeaten in Grand Slam finals. He also ended Sinner’s 20-match winning streak in major tournaments.
It was the first time Alcaraz had come back from two sets down, showing incredible determination in front of the Paris crowd.
The match was historic not just for its length, but because it was the first Grand Slam final between two players born in the 2000s. Alcaraz now leads their head-to-head record 8-5.
After losing the first two sets, Alcaraz stepped up his game. He broke Sinner’s serve and took the third set. In the fourth set, he saved three championship points before pushing it to a tie-break, which he won.
In the final set, Alcaraz took an early lead, lost it briefly, but came back strong to seal the victory in a dramatic tie-break.
This win puts Alcaraz among the greats — only Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal have won five Grand Slam titles at a younger age.
Alcaraz showed once again that he’s not just the future of tennis — he’s already at the top.
