Chelsea are through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after a 4-1 win over Benfica in a dramatic match played in the United States on Saturday night.
The match was level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, but goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Pedro Neto and Christian Nkunku in the second half of extra time sealed a big win for the Blues.
Reece James had earlier given Chelsea the lead in the second half with a brilliant free-kick, but the match was halted in the 86th minute due to a heavy storm, causing a two-hour delay.
When play resumed, Benfica pushed hard and were awarded a penalty in stoppage time after Malo Gusto handled the ball from a Nicolas Otamendi header. Ángel Di María stepped up and scored to make it 1-1 and send the game into extra time.
Chelsea came out stronger in extra time and scored three times to book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Brazilian side Palmeiras, who earlier defeated Botafogo 1-0.
