Chelsea Beat Roma 2-0 as Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan Secure Champions League Victory
Chelsea continued their impressive start to the UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Roma on Wednesday night.
The Blues had to work hard to break down a stubborn Roma defence, but second-half goals from Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan ensured they secured all three points.
After a goalless first half, Carpenter made the breakthrough in the 51st minute. The Australian defender, introduced at the break, combined with Wieke Kaptein before finishing from close range to give Chelsea the lead.
Chelsea continued to push for a second goal, although Roma threatened to make things difficult as the match progressed. The visitors attempted to find an equaliser, but the Blues remained in control and limited their opportunities.
Buchanan eventually put the result beyond doubt in the 89th minute, rising to head home Kaptein’s delivery and seal the win.
The victory keeps Chelsea unbeaten in the Champions League league phase and strengthens their position as they pursue qualification for the knockout rounds.
