Chelsea silence doubters with League Cup Triumph
Chelsea F.C. Women reminded everyone why they remain one of the most dominant teams in English women’s football after beating Manchester United Women 2-0 to win the FA Women’s League Cup at Ashton Gate.
Heading into the final, Chelsea faced questions about their form after slipping behind in the Women’s Super League title race and dealing with injuries and squad absences. But when it mattered most, they delivered again.
Manager Sonia Bompastor praised the mentality of her players after the win.
“Sometimes people think because we are Chelsea it’s just a habit to win trophies. But it takes a lot for my players to perform and grab a trophy,” she said.
For players like Lucy Bronze, the victory added another chapter to an already decorated career, while Lauren James highlighted the mindset that continues to drive the team.
“It’s in our DNA. We always find a way to win,” James said after the match.
The victory also strengthens Bompastor’s record since taking charge, with the Chelsea manager now winning all three domestic cup finals she has led the club into.
Chelsea will now turn their attention to the rest of the season, including a UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal W.F.C. and an Women’s FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur Women.
