Chiamaka Nnadozie the Heroine as Paris FC Win Historic Coupe de France Title

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie was the heroine as Paris FC won the Coupe de France Féminine for the first time in 19 years, beating Paris Saint-Germain in a thrilling penalty shootout on Saturday.

The final, played at the Stade de l’Épopée in Calais, was a historic all-Paris clash — the first of its kind in the competition’s history. After a goalless draw in regular time, it was down to penalties, and Nnadozie rose to the occasion.

The Super Falcons goalkeeper made two brilliant saves during the shootout to hand Paris FC a 4-2 victory on penalties, helping the club lift their second-ever Coupe de France title — the first coming in 2005.

It was a moment of redemption for Nnadozie, who had suffered heartbreak against the same PSG side last season in the semi-final, where Paris FC lost on penalties after a 3-3 draw. This time, the Nigerian goalkeeper was calm, focused, and unstoppable.

The 24-year-old, who joined Paris FC from Rivers Angels in 2020, has consistently delivered top performances in goal. Her display on Saturday showed once again why she is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Africa and Europe.

Nnadozie’s success with Paris FC adds to an already impressive career. At club level, she won several titles with Rivers Angels in Nigeria, including the league and the FA Cup. For Nigeria, she has played a key role in the Super Falcons’ recent success, winning the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations and gold at the 2019 African Games, where she saved three penalties in the final against Cameroon.

Individually, she has been named CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year twice (2023, 2024), won the D1 Arkema Goalkeeper of the Season award for 2023–24, and was Africa’s Best Woman Goalkeeper in 2019, according to IFFHS.

At the 2019 Women’s World Cup, Nnadozie made headlines by becoming the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in the tournament, in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over South Korea. In 2023, she captained the Super Falcons against Olympic champions Canada, saving a penalty and earning Player of the Match in a goalless draw.

Saturday’s victory with Paris FC adds yet another special chapter to her growing legacy.
