Christopher Nkunku eager to make Impact in second Chelsea season

Christopher Nkunku is determined to overcome the setbacks of his injury-plagued debut season at Chelsea and contribute significantly under the guidance of new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Nkunku’s first season at Chelsea, which began in the summer of 2023, was marred by injuries, limiting his impact on the team. The 26-year-old forward sustained a knee injury during a preseason match against Borussia Dortmund in August 2023, which hindered his performance throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Nkunku expressed his readiness to make up for lost time. “I am feeling better after the difficult season last year,” he emphasized. “I had a nice break during the summer. I needed it. I worked a little bit before coming here, but it was important for me to break after this year, for my head also. It was good.”

Nkunku is now focused on preseason training and is committed to staying fit and building on the team’s foundation. “Now I am working in every training session to stay fit and to go forward in a good way. Pre-season is very good, and the team is good. We are practicing the hard work to be fresh and ready to play some friendly games.”

The French forward is impressed with Maresca’s approach and ideas for the team. “The new head coach brings very good ideas to play,” Nkunku noted. “We are all happy to practice every training with him. Now it is just the beginning. We need to learn and to fix in every training the way he wants us to play. We are on this way to learn. If everybody has the idea of the coach to play, we will produce good football this year.”

Nkunku’s primary objective for the upcoming season is to stay healthy and repay the faith shown in him by the Chelsea board. “I am feeling rejuvenated and focused on showcasing my talent over a sustained period,” he stated. “I want to stay healthy and make significant contributions to the team.”
