Chukwueze scores as Villarreal bungle lead against Real Madrid

Real Madrid come back from two goals down to defeat Yellow Submarine

Samuel Chukwueze was on the scoresheet for Villarreal as they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Real Madrid in their Copa del Rey clash. The Super Eagles forward put his side two goals up before they were pegged back in the second half.

After losing the Supercopa do Espana to bitter rivals Barcelona over the weekend, Real Madrid faced a Villarreal side that defeated them in the league just over a week ago.

Villarreal opened the scoring after only four minutes through former Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue. The Frenchman fired home a thunderbolt on the half volley from a tight angle, having latched onto a flicked pass from Gérard Moreno.

Real Madrid pushed for an equaliser and were undone in the 42nd minute as the Yellow Submarine doubled their advantage.

Chukwueze received the ball on the break before laying it off. He then continued his run into the box and was found by a clipped pass from Moreno, allowing him to smash his effort high past Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti threw on midfielder Dani Ceballos in the 56th minute and the substitution turned the tide of the game.

A good passing spell from Los Blancos saw the substitute play in Vinicius Jr in the box, allowing the winger fire past the Villarreal goalkeeper in the 57th minute.

Real Madrid drew level in the 69th minute through center back Eder Militao, who bundled in from close range after a header from Karim Benzema had been saved by the goalkeeper.

With his contribution in the second half, it was only fitting that Ceballos scored the winner for his side. The midfielder positioned himself at the edge of the box and received a cutback from Marco Asensio before drilling a first time effort into the bottom left corner of the net in the 86th minute to complete the comeback.

Chukwueze exited the Copa Del Rey with four goals in four appearances for his side having scored against Cartagena and St Amalia in the previous rounds.
