Conte still can’t understand why Mourinho never considered Moses

Antonio Conte says he just can’t understand why Victor Moses was not given a chance at Chelsea before his arrival, insisting he could see the Nigeria international’s quality at once.

Moses joined Chelsea in 2012 from Wigan Athletic, with the Blues splashing out a fee of around £9m to secure his services.

The winger featured under Roberto Di Matteo and then Rafael Benitez, however his Chelsea career took a turn for the worse when Mourinho walked back into Stamford Bridge.

Loan spells at Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United followed, but this season Conte has made Moses a key man at Chelsea, the Nigeria international operating on the flank as a wing-back in a 3-4-3 formation.
I could see his potential from the first days of the summer training camp”, he told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Moses has important qualities, technique, physical strength and the ability to cover 70 metres of the pitch.

“I find it incredible that someone like him has been underestimated”, Conte added.

Moses has become a key man at Chelsea under Conte this season, helping the Blues to hit top spot in the Premier League at the weekend.

Still just 25 years old, Moses broke onto the scene in English football in 2007 after coming through the youth academy at Crystal Palace.
