Curry haunted by performance in game seven

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry took some blame for his team’s NBA Finals loss, admitting his performance in game seven will “haunt” him.

Curry was six-of-19 from the field for his 17 points as the Warriors suffered a 93-89 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the decider on Sunday.

The NBA MVP also had four turnovers and was below his incredible best from three-point range, going four-of-14.

“I didn’t play efficient, I had some good moments but didn’t do enough to help my team win, especially down the stretch,” Curry said.

“I was aggressive but in the wrong ways. It’ll haunt me for a while because it means a lot to me to try and lead my team and do what I need to do on the court and on big stages.

“I’ve done it before, I didn’t do it tonight.

“It’ll be good down the stretch, next year, coming back, remembering this feeling and being an even better player.”

After a 73-9 regular season, the Warriors led the NBA Finals 3-1 – only to lose three consecutive games against the LeBron James-inspired Cavs.

Curry said failing to take the opportunity on home court was a blow.

“A lot of it was myself kind of leading the charge and settling too much, at home in the fourth quarter, felt like we could go for that dagger punch,” he said.

“We didn’t really put any pressure on the defense getting to the paint and trying to force the issue that way and really just kind of settled too much.

“That’s something that is hard to swallow, the opportunity we had in front of us.”
