Pep Guardiola ready to spend £40m to sign David Alaba for Manchester City?

Pep Guardiola is hopeful of being reunited with versatile Bayern Munich star David Alaba at Manchester City next summer, according to a report.

Representatives of the 24-year-old, who can play anywhere on the left or in a defensive-midfield position, are said to have already held initial discussions with the Citizens over a £40m move.

The Sun claims that City want to lure Alaba to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, with new full-backs at the top of Guardiola’s wishlist as he attempts to turn his side into a European force.

Guardiola worked with the Austria international for three years during his time in charge of Bayern, and it is claimed that he is willing to double the £75,000-per-week five-year deal signed by Alaba just seven months ago should he put pen to paper at City.
