Djokovic Beats Evans Easily to Stay in Wimbledon Hunt
Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, was too strong for Britain’s Dan Evans in the second round.
Evans, now ranked 154th in the world, was given a wildcard to play at Wimbledon. But he had no answers for Djokovic’s powerful game and lost 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 on Centre Court.
This may have been the final Wimbledon appearance for the 35-year-old Evans, who was supported by a loud home crowd. But the 38-year-old Djokovic was in full control from the start.
Djokovic’s serving was superb, and Evans was left shaking his head in disbelief more than once. He only won 9 out of 58 points when returning serve – just 16%.
Djokovic, who is seeded sixth this year, also showed why he is still one of the best returners in the sport. He broke Evans’ serve six times from 16 chances.
The match was another strong performance from the 24-time Grand Slam winner, who is chasing two big goals:
To equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles.
And to win a record 25th Grand Slam title, something no male player has done before.
Djokovic hasn’t won a major since the 2023 US Open, but he looks determined to change that this year at Wimbledon.
